Fatal Accident with Wrong Way Driver

On Wednesday night, December 28, there was a fatal accident involving a wrong way driver.

According to St. Charles police, the accident happened shortly before 9 p.m. on Veterans Memorial Parkway near Country Club Road.

It appears that a 31 year old woman from Fenton, Missouri was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Veteran’s Memorial Parkway when her vehicle struck another car traveling westbound head-on.

She had to be extricated from her vehicle and died at the scene.

In the other vehicle, the 16 year old female driver and her 59 year old father, both received non life threatening injuries and were transported to hospital.

The name of the victim has not been released until family members have been notified.

The roadway was shut down for a brief period while crews worked to clear the scene.

Fourteen Injured In Chain Reaction Car Accident

On Wednesday, October 12, fourteen people were injured in a chain reaction car accident on southbound Interstate 55 involving 18 vehicles in St. Louis.

According to authorities the accident happened at around 3.15 p.m. between Gasconade Street and the 4500 block of South Broadway on the southbound Interstate. It appears that there was mist in the air from rainfall, and that visibility was suddenly gone when the sun came out and hit the mist. Then followed a chain reaction with 18 vehicles crashing into each other.

According to the St. Louis Fire Department there were 35 medical and fire personnel who attended the scene, with seven people being taken to hospital in a stable condition but two more were critical. Five people were treated at the scene for their injuries.

Following the major crash the interstate was closed southbound causing significant traffic delays and back up on the adjoining roads.

Police are working to determine the cause, and at this time they are unsure if it was weather related.

Woman From St. Louis Killed in a Crash

Early on Monday morning, September 19, a woman from St. Louis was killed in a crash on St. Charles Rock Road.

According to police the accident happened shortly after midnight when two cars were driving westbound on St. Charles Rock Road, east of Natural Bridge. A 2003 Chevy Impala being driven by 31 year old Bryant T. Garden lost control and hit a 1997 Infiniti QX4 Being driven by 23 year old Devin L. Hudson. As a result of the impact, Hudson lost control and hit a traffic light.

Garden, who had been wearing a seat belt, was taken to DePaul with moderate injuries.

Hudson and his two passengers were not restrained. Hudson and passenger 29 year old Tony Thompson were seriously injured and taken to DePaul Hospital. The second passenger, 24 year old Elizabeth Campbell of St. Louis was killed in the crash.

Two Toddlers Killed in Two Vehicle Crash

On Monday night, August 15, two toddlers were killed in a two vehicle crash in St. Louis.

According to police, the accident happened at around 9 p.m. at Hanley road and University Place drive near the University of Missouri St. Louis. A sedan, being driven by a 21 year old woman was trying to make a left turn onto University Place when it was struck by an SUV being driven by a 19 year old male.

In the sedan were 3 year old Kameron Johnson and a 2 year Kaylee Johnson and they were both ejected. A passerby stopped his vehicle and performed CPR on Kameron and both children were rushed to hospital but did not survive. The car driver was also taken to hospital along with the driver of the SUV.

St. Louis County Police are still carrying out the investigation and do not yet know the speeds involved or whether the children were restrained.

Two Vehicle Crash Leaves Two Drivers Dead

Early on Saturday morning, July 23, a two vehicle crash left two drivers dead.

According to St. Louis County Police the accident happened at around 2:20 a.m. on Highway 100, near Taylor Road. Paula Turpiano, aged 35, was driving eastbound when she hit another vehicle being driven by 72 year old Gary Osborne Sr. with five passengers on board.

Turpiano was taken to hospital in critical condition and died there. Osborne was pronounced dead at the scene and four of his five passengers were all injured. A 60 year old female suffered major injuries, a 20 year old passenger, 31 year old passenger, and a 14 year old passenger, all suffered minor injuries and an 8 month old passenger was uninjured.

The investigation of this accident is ongoing and is being handled by the St. Louis County Police

Woman Killed When Hit by a Car

On Thursday June 23, a woman was killed having left her vehicle on a bridge in St. Louis and was hit by a car.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened on the Daniel Boone Bridge that carries Interstate 64 traffic over the Missouri River, connecting St. Louis and St. Charles counties. Stephanie Phung, aged 28 of O’Fallon, Missouri was driving across the bridge when her car hit a tire in the roadway and began to drag it along. She was around the halfway point of the bridge and stopped the car in the right lane and left her vehicle to try and remove the tire. A pickup truck behind her was unable to avoid her and hit both her and the car.

Phung was pronounced dead at the scene

All westbound lanes were shut down for several hours and vehicles were diverted.

Mother is Killed and Four Children Injured in Single Vehicle Accident

On Saturday, May 12, a mother was killed, and her four children and another woman were injured in a single vehicle accident near Lonedell, Missouri.

According to authorities the accident happened at around 3.00 p.m. near Highway 30 and Highway N, about an hour southwest of St. Louis. Barbara Nordan, aged 69 and of Gray Summit was driving when the SUV left the road, went airborne and smashed into four trees. At this stage it is not known what caused her to lose control of the vehicle.

In the vehicle were 29 year old Brandy King of St. Clair and she was killed, while two of the four children, 11 year old Jaden King and 8 year old John King, were flown to local hospitals for treatment.

The other two children, 6 year old Joseph King and 4 year old Joselyn King, were taken by ambulance to hospital along wih Nordan who was also injured.

University Professor Killed in Fatal Accident

On Wednesday morning, April 27 there was a fatal accident on Interstate 44.

According to authorities, the accident happened at around 8.30 a.m. A 2001 Isuzu Rodeo pulled over in the traffic lane having been involved in an accident in the exit lane to Vandeventer. The driver,48 year old Donald Patten got out of the car to inspect the damage and then returned to his vehicle. His car was then hit in the rear by a 1966 Ford F 150 when then went on to strike a pedestrian who was standing in the traffic lane.

Patten, who was a St. Louis University professor in the theological studies department, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased and the 34 year old unnamed pedestrian was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the Ford, an unnamed 35 year old was also taken to hospital and is said to be stable.

The investigation is ongoing.

Mother Dies and Two Injured in Two Vehicle Crash

On Thursday morning, March 10, a woman was killed and two were injured after a two vehicle crash on Interstate 270.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 7.30 a.m. on the southbound lanes near Manchester Road. Amber Johnson, aged 24 was driving south when for reasons as yet unknown she lost control of her car. The car spun and was hit on the driver’s side by a semi truck. The semi pulled immediately over to the shoulder but Johnson’s car was pinned underneath.

Johnson was killed in the crash and her two passengers were injured. Joshua Parker, aged 28 had moderate injuries and two year old Lyla Johnson suffered from minor injuries. They were both taken to hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and the interstate was partially closed following the crash leading to long delays for drivers. It did not fully reopen until after noon.
